            16.08.2023 – A day full of dolphins

Published by Paula Thake on August 24, 2023

Our day began with a symphony of joy as the Atlantic spotted dolphins leaped and twirled around our vessel. Did you know these dolphins, known as (Stenella frontalis), are not only adorned with distinctive markings but also possess close-knit social bonds that mirror their dynamic group behavior?

As the clock marked midday, the ocean unveiled a duet between the Atlantic spotted dolphins and their companions, the Bottlenose dolphins. These delightful beings, with the scientific name (Tursiops truncatus), demonstrated a harmonious display of grace and camaraderie. An intriguing tidbit: Bottlenose dolphins are gifted communicators, expressing themselves through a symphony of clicks, whistles, and gestures.

The crescendo of our maritime tale arrived in the evening hours, casting a spotlight on the Atlantic spotted dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, and the regal Pilot whales. These latter ones, with the scientific name (Globicephala macrorhynchus), graced us with their majestic presence, traversing the waters with a serene elegance. An intriguing insight: Pilot whales thrive on strong family bonds, often journeying in closely-knit groups.

From the lively antics of the Atlantic spotted dolphins to the awe-inspiring appearance of the Pilot whales, the day’s chronicle unraveled like a maritime odyssey. These snapshots of marine life’s splendor etch an indelible mark in our hearts, leaving us eagerly anticipating the untold stories tomorrow’s tides will bring.
