Ribeira Brava started the day with a splash at 9:30 AM, as the Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) made a captivating appearance. Their playful acrobatics and sleek bodies gracefully gliding through the waves left everyone mesmerised.
But the excitement didn’t stop there! At 1:30 PM, a lone Bottlenose dolphin graced the waters with its presence once again, capturing the hearts of onlookers with its undeniable charm and curiosity.
Over at Stenella, the scene was equally as enchanting. At 9:30 AM, the Atlantic spotted dolphins and Bottlenose dolphins returned, creating a harmonious dance of beauty and grace. Witnessing these incredible creatures in their natural habitat is an awe-inspiring experience, reminding us of the importance of preserving our oceans and the life they hold. But a special surprise awaited us! More than 10 curious Rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis) glided majestically through the azure waters, these unique species are so exciting to watch all the time! But just when we thought this day could not be toped we spotted in our last 2 tours the beautiful and amazing Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) appeared on the surface. Although it was for a couple of minutes we got to admire them until they faded jumping into the horizon.
Madeira’s marine ecosystem is undoubtedly a treasure trove of biodiversity, and today’s sightings were a clear testament to that. It’s crucial that we continue to cherish and protect these remarkable creatures and their habitats. Let’s remember to be responsible visitors, ensuring we leave no trace and do our part to preserve this natural wonder for generations to come.
