The morning started gently with a school of Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) cruising calmly along the shoreline. The animals were very relaxt and there were a few beautiful close encounters. On the further journey we observed shy Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), which didn’t take our invitation for a close encounter. That’s fine, because after all it’s their living space and their decision whether they want to join us. A Portuguese man-o-war (Physalia physalis) was floating at sea in the company of a man-o-war fish. Please zoom in on the photo. You can clearly see the eye of the little fellow.
At noon the search took a long time. We went far out, let our eyes wander over the sea, but not a fin far and wide. Some people may have given up hope, but anything is possible on the sea at any time. After traveling such a long distance, our sighting of Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) was only about 100 meters offshore. The animals approached curiously. So the day started and ended with a gentle encounter. The lesson of the tour at noon, never give up hope.
