It’s not always easy on the sea. Not always our guests can enjoy large pods of dolphins. But the spotter and the crew on board always do their best to ensure that the guests have a wonderful experience. Of course, this requires our sea friends as players. Today we had a long way across the sea to get to our observation area. This can be a good time to relax; just let your thoughts drift away; to get away from it all and enjoy the view of our beautiful island. Two Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) were hunting. Such a situation is something special, because the elegant hunters perform dynamic jumps and you can admire their beautiful hourglass drawing. A seagull sat on the sea surface and fled to safety several times when one of the dolphins darted out of the water.
Recently we have observed this behavior of Common dolphins more frequently. The school is divided and scattered over a large area, small sub-groups can be found feeding. It was a great effort by our spotter Drumond to find the two animals in the big blue. I am happy about all the guests who were able to enjoy this sighting. After all, every encounter is something special, something unique.
