Today on our trips we encountered some Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). This is the most commonly seen dolphins species due to the fact that they are large and also live close to the shore. The special thing about Bottlenose dolphins is the friendship system. Bottlenose dolphins have friends and these friendships can last up to 6 years. In this time they stick together, only separating when it is time to mate as friendships are only done with the same gender. Caring for the baby is work of the female dolphin though.
So Bottlenose dolphins might be great friends, the males at least are no good fathers.
