It was not an easy day for the spotter today. The fine yellow dust was still in the air, making visibility very difficult. But from midday onwards, different species of dolphins were sighted. At midday, we headed west to reach a group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). Fortunately, they had changed direction and were coming towards us. One dolphin was swimming on its back, head up and mouth open. It was being escorted and supported by four or five others. At first, it almost looked as if the animal was in distress. But as it turned out, it was just a new style, because a moment later, three animals were swimming body to body, all on their backs.
In the afternoon, we headed east to reach the same school of Bottlenose dolphins just in time. If we had left ten minutes later, they would have been out of our reach. Timing is extremely important when encountering nature.
