Today the signs were good for dolphin sightings. Our Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) were relaxed, soft and very gentle on the move. A slow approach with patience has the greatest chance of a close observation. Boat and dolphins moved through our blue office in unison. Such an encounter is touching. What trust they show us. That’s a great gift.
In contrast, the Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) were very active. They also sought our contact. That’s just spotted dolphin style. Such an encounter is also touching. Their curiosity and trust. Being completely in the here and now. This is also a gift to us.
A Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) stayed near a rope. Small crabs are also on their menu and in fact at least one crab had taken refuge there to be transported through the sea. The rope was pulled out of the water by Drumond, our captain on Stenella.
