This morning we were lucky enough to spot Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) twice. During the first encounter, we were confronted with several boats that were also in the observation zone. So we left the area, as there were definitely too many boats for the few dolphins that were there. Our second sighting then developed as we like it, calm and relaxed. There were also some wonderful moments to experience there.
At midday, time was the deciding factor. The Bottlenose dolphins from the morning had meanwhile moved towards Funchal. They were already seen off Ponta do Sol as our guests slowly arrived. To have a chance of a sighting, there was only one chance: to leave the harbour as quickly as possible. Even though our Ribeira Brava is the most beautiful boat on Madeira, she is a leisurely traveller. All the guests arrived on time and were ready to give it their all. We left the harbour early. The hurry was worth it, at the last possible moment we came across the school of Bottlenose dolphins and were rewarded with some great jumps. Time, those 15 minutes earlier, was the deciding factor!
