Today there were two different types of dolphins in the morning. A group of Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) was spread over a large area. We were lucky enough to see a small calf in a subgroup close to us. The little calf even had birthmarks. Also within the Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) we discovered offspring. And even here, on the smallest animal, the birthmarks were still visible.
In the afternoon it was a long search, but at the very end the patience of our guests was rewarded and we met the little group of the Bottlenose dolphins, again including the calf.
Meeting these wonderful marine mammals in our Blue Office, conjures a smile on the faces of our guests. A special gift, right?
We have the opportunity to admire these animals in their natural habitat but, although it is gradually becoming understood in Europe that a concrete pool is not a living space for marine mammals, business with captive dolphins is booming. Therefore the rule applies to all animal lovers: No ticket purchase for dolphinariums!
In Taiji / Japan, both species spotted today are persecuted, hunted, captured, sold and slaughtered. What a cruelty. Therefore, I would like to ask you, if you enjoyed the sighting, please sign our petitions against Taiji / Japan, Faroer Islands and against whaling!
