On our afternoon tour, we encountered a small group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). The animals moved leisurely along the coast, and we were allowed to accompany them. From time to time, however, they seemed to accompany us and surfed calmly in the bow wave.
By the way, there are three groups of Bottlenose dolphins, the Pacific Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops gillii), the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops aduncus) and the Atlantic bottlenose dolphin. Today’s group resides here off the coast of Madeira.
In the morning we had no sighting despite a long search. Of course, we would like our guests to have a nice, touching encounter with the marine mammals, but unfortunately there are also days when this is not possible. Today was such a morning.
