If babies have birthmarks, they are probably little dolphins! Today, these little newcomers to the school of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) were extensively admired by our guests. How nimble they are! But they also have great support, because if the dolphin baby is on Mother’s side, it will be taken along by the pull of mother … of course, they still have to use energy to keep up with the group. But Mother’s support is always welcome. On the way back in the evening, our guests could follow with their own eyes, how the suction effect works. Our mother ship Ribeira Brava provided the pull that a kayaker used to pull comfortably towards the harbor.
Today we even had calves, where you could still see the birthmarks, a sign that their birthday was not long ago. Take a close look at today’s photos, you will discover the birthmarks yourself 🙂 By the way, marine mammals are born first with their tail! The little dolphins look a bit crumpled in the beginning. During the birth process the tail is still curled in and the dorsal fin still wobbly and lies on the body … very convenient, because the journey through the birth canal into the blue world, in our blue office is in this way much easier. Welcome little dolphin newbies!
And a little Welcome to our „Shorty group“ which once again was for their first time on beautiful Ribeira Brava.
