There is an elegance about diversity. It’s as if mother nature proudly but subtly shows off her incredible creativity and the complex network that lays the foundation for all the life that fills our planet. While human beings have been responsible for the extinction of a number of species and may be the cause of the next great extinction, there still is hope. Hope that life will find a way and diversity will endure for future generations to enjoy.
At Lobosonda we aim to show our guests how precious diversity is and how lucky we are to experience it and, today, our guests got a taste of it. In the morning we started off with a cetacean quartet, that included sightings of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), Risso’s dolphins (Grampus griseus), Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus), Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and even a Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus).
The midday tours were then dedicated to our dynamic duo; the Short-finned pilot whales and Bottlenose dolphins, two top predator species that enjoy different social dynamics but a very similar distribution pattern, often resulting in mixed sightings. In the late afternoon, our Stenella managed yet another cetacean quartet, wrapping up a spectacular day of diversity out on the ocean.
