            04.12.2021 – Respect and protect

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on December 11, 2021

It didn’t work out today. Our Ribeira Brava went far to the westernmost point of the island, Ponta do Pargo seemed within reach. But no dolphins, no whales were seen. That is of course a pity. Of course, we would much rather bring our guests back enchanted by the marine mammals. Unfortunately, that wasn’t possible today.

A guest on board brought an important message. It couldn’t be better expressed.

“Man is not the only species on the planet, he just thinks he is.”

Unfortunately, it is. Humans see themselves as intelligent, sentient beings, but do not understand that there are many types of intelligence and that we humans can only grasp intelligence on the basis of our own understanding. We are highly developed, but so are other beings.

To take an example, Pilot whales that live in a matriarchal structure are closely related to one another. The animals have an extremely strong cohesion and support behavior that goes so far that they do not know the principle of abandoning a group member. Personally, I would speak of a social, emotional intelligence that some people do not know. It is a strong heart intelligence! If a newborn Pilot whale does not survive, the mother animal carries her dead calf on the surface for many days. She and the other group members are in a process of grief. This behavior has also been observed in other species, such as Orcas and Rough-toothed dolphins. It shows very clearly that they are sentient beings. Other examples testify to marine mammals that support and protect each other interspecific. Pilot whales that have adopted a Bottlenose dolphin. Humpback whales protecting other species, such as a seal, from Orca attacks … there are many examples of how socially and supportive marine mammals are.

On the opposite side you can see the hustle and bustle of the Faeroe Islands, where these sentient beings, the Pilot whales in masses from the inevitable right to indulge in their mankind tradition, are being slaughtered. Even Taiji/Japan cannot smear itself with the glory of animal welfare. Here, too, the murderous goings-on, this crime against nature, takes place. If you see the human behavior there, adjectives such as social, supportive, compassionate, protective move into the distance. Social, emotional intelligence definitely cannot exist in such people.

What is certain, however, is that men are one of many species on this beautiful planet. We can and should protect the weak. Please visit our petition page and help protect our sentient, social, intelligent friends, the marine mammals.

Thank you, dear guest, for this wonderful message that you have brought with you!
