03.08.2022 – From stormy seas to playful Dolphins

Published by Marlene Cabral on August 13, 2022

Today started off a little challenging. Unfortunately we had to cancel our morning whale watching and and snorkeling. While our Guide Paula got engaged in our Kids Club, edition Shark vs. Dolphins and explained the difference between Fish and Marine Mammals like Dolphins to our younger generation, our Spotter Carlos tried his best to find animals for the afternoon trips. Education about Marine Life and especially the few basic like the difference between a shark and a dolphin and their way of living, aswell as the importance of marine conservation are a big part of our company’s philosophy’s.  The afternoon tour started with a little while searching before we encountered two Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops Truncatus). Last but not least the evening tour was the biggest highlight of the day. We were lucky to finish our day with a beautiful pod of Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) and something special for our Birdwatchers within us, a beautiful Ruddy Turnstone (Arenaria interpres) that flew past our boat. A wading bird that is not seen often out at sea out here in Madeira.  Sometimes it is not all about the Whales and Dolphins, but also little and rare sightings like this one that got our crew and a few of us very excited.
