On a planned tour, my morning gaze as a guide falls naturally on the sea. Today it looked very promising at first. I liked the reflection of the clouds in the sea so much that I immediately took a picture of it. On the way to work I was surprised by a bright rainbow. They look beautiful, but where there is a rainbow, there is also rain. Gray rain clouds came in from the west. But we were lucky because our tour was spared from the rain. Nevertheless, it got wet for our guests, because meanwhile there was quite a wave with associated splashing water. As one guest said so aptly today: “The sea is pretty wet today.” But our guests were patient and luckily this paid off in the end. Our captain Filipe Eagle eye discovered a school of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) between the waves. After the long wait, our guests were of course very happy.
Sudden weather changes, difficult conditions, waves, a wet ride, all of this can happen unexpectedly. Sometimes, even with as high a sighting rate as we have, it may also be possible not to sight any marine mammals. On such days, like today, we notice how dependent we are on nature, both on the weather and on the presence of marine mammals.
