Es handelt sich um etwas, das eine Reaktion des \u00d6kosystems auf Umweltver\u00e4nderungen und -schwankungen anzeigt, die sonst nicht beobachtet worden w\u00e4re.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Viele marine Raubtiere und Meeress\u00e4ugetiere sind oft auff\u00e4llig und weit verbreitet und integrieren viele Informationen vom Abgrund bis zur Oberfl\u00e4chenschicht sowie von untersten bis h\u00f6chsten Stufen im Nahrungsnetz. Da die meisten S\u00e4ugetiere an der Spitze der Nahrungskette stehen, wirken sie als wichtige Regulatoren f\u00fcr die darunter liegenden trophischen Ebenen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Viele Meeress\u00e4ugetiere haben eine lange Lebensspanne, sind langfristige K\u00fcstenbewohner, ern\u00e4hren sich auf der hohen trophischen Ebene und haben einzigartige Fettreserven, die als Depots f\u00fcr anthropogene Toxine dienen k\u00f6nnen. Viele dieser Arten leben gemeinsam mit dem Menschen in K\u00fcstenregionen und verzehren die gleiche Nahrung, so dass sie wichtige Erkenntnisse \u00fcber Probleme der \u00f6ffentlichen Gesundheit liefern k\u00f6nnen.\u00a0 Angesichts der anthropogenen Ver\u00e4nderungen k\u00f6nnen viele dieser Arten Stressfaktoren wie chemischen Schadstoffen, Algenbiotoxinen und Krankheitserregern ausgesetzt sein.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Wale zum Beispiel spielen eine wichtige Rolle bei der Bindung von Kohlenstoff aus der Atmosph\u00e4re; jeder Gro\u00dfwal bindet im Durchschnitt sch\u00e4tzungsweise 33 Tonnen CO2. Die Erw\u00e4rmung der Ozeane und der Verlust des Meereises in den Gebieten der Arktis und Antarktis k\u00f6nnen sich auf die Ern\u00e4hrungsgewohnheiten und den Nahrungsreichtum dieser Wale auswirken. Das Plankton, von dem sie sich ern\u00e4hren, wird sich h\u00f6chstwahrscheinlich verschieben und in seiner Menge abnehmen, wenn sich Str\u00f6mungen und Winde \u00e4ndern.
