Daher machten wir uns auf in den Osten, wo die See etwas ruhiger war. Einige Kurzflossen Pilotwale (<em>Globicephala macrorhynchus<\/em>) hielten sich ein paar Meilen vor Funchal auf. Die Tiere waren ihrer Zugrichtung nach ebenfalls auf dem Weg aus der Zone der windaufgew\u00fchlten See.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wir sahen sechs Exemplare, die zu unseren Seiten, doch noch etwas dichter vor dem Bug der Stenella vorbeizogen. Es war sch\u00f6n ihre gerundeten K\u00f6pfe durch die Wasseroberfl\u00e4che brechen zu sehen als die Tiere auf einigen der Wellen surften. Charakteristisch f\u00fcr die Pilotwale sind ihre relativ gro\u00dfen und rundlichen R\u00fcckenflossen. Diese k\u00f6nnen zur exakten Identifikation einzelner Individuen der Gesamtpopulation um Madeira genutzt werden. Daher sind Fotos der R\u00fcckenpartie von der Seite wertvoll f\u00fcr wissenschaftliche Zwecke und zur Erstellung eines Identifikationskatalogs. Wir leiten unsere Bilder an die entsprechenden Forscher und Institutionen, wie das Meeresbeobachtungszentrum Madeira (Oceanic Observatory of Madeira), weiter. Es ist toll bestimmte Tiere wieder und wieder zu beobachten. Es gibt vieles, was wir noch nicht \u00fcber diese faszinierenden Meeress\u00e4uger wissen, doch wir sind froh Tag f\u00fcr Tag neue Informationen zu sammeln.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In der N\u00e4he der Pilotwale trafen wir auch auf eine gro\u00dfe Gruppe Gelbschnabelsturmtaucher (<em>Calonectris borealis<\/em>). Die Anzahlen dieser eindrucksvollen Seev\u00f6gel sind bereits deutlich geringer als im Sommer. Bald werden sie alle auf ihrem Weg in die Wintergebiete in der s\u00fcdlichen Hemisph\u00e4re sein.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\"><em>von Jan-Christopher
