Doch tats\u00e4chlich ist dies nur eine Gruppe der insgesamt vier unterschiedlichen Meeress\u00e4ugergruppen. Interessanterweise stammen alle von verschiedenen Lands\u00e4ugetierarten ab. Der Robbe n\u00e4chster Verwandter an Land ist der B\u00e4r; Die Seekuh ist verwandtschaftlich mit den Elefanten verbunden und Seeotter geh\u00f6ren in die Gattung der Marder. Nun ist die definitive Zugeh\u00f6rigkeit der Wale schlu\u00dfendlich noch nicht eindeutig gekl\u00e4rt. Doch nach aktuellen Erkenntnissen geht man davon aus, dass sie von den Paarhufern abstammen.
