Westlich von Calheta begegneten wir vier pr\u00e4chtigen Finnwalen (<em>Balaenoptera physalus<\/em>). Diese Filtrierer sind nach dem Blauwal (<em>Balaenoptera musculus<\/em>) die zweitgr\u00f6\u00dften Tiere der Erde, wobei die Weibchen eine L\u00e4nge von bis zu 25 Metern erreichen k\u00f6nnen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Sie sind als schnelle Schwimmer bekannt und bewegten sich mit beachtlicher Geschwindigkeit fort, als wir sie sahen. Sie k\u00f6nnen Geschwindigkeiten von bis zu 40 km\/h erreichen, was ihnen den Spitznamen \u201eWindhunde des Ozeans\u201c eingebracht hat. Finnwale haben eine schlanke Statur und sind leicht an der asymmetrischen F\u00e4rbung ihres Kopfes zu erkennen: dunkel auf der linken Seite des Unterkiefers, wei\u00df auf der rechten Seite des Unterkiefers. Einige Populationen von Finnwalen wandern im Fr\u00fchjahr und Sommer in die Polarregionen, um dort Nahrung zu suchen, bevor sie zur Fortpflanzung in w\u00e4rmere Gew\u00e4sser zur\u00fcckkehren. Andere Populationen verweilen l\u00e4nger in kalten Gew\u00e4ssern. Man findet sie einzeln, zu zweit oder in kleinen Gruppen, doch in Gebieten mit reichlich Nahrung k\u00f6nnen sie sich vor\u00fcbergehend in gro\u00dfer Zahl versammeln.<\/span><\/p>\n<p
