Sie entstehen durch das Zusammenspiel von Lava, Ozean und Erosion \u00fcber sehr lange Zeitr\u00e4ume. Anders als k\u00fcnstlich angelegte Schwimmbecken sind diese Pools nat\u00fcrliche Strukturen, die direkt mit der vulkanischen Entstehung der Insel verbunden sind. Besonders an den K\u00fcsten Madeiras finden sich zahlreiche Lavagesteine, die durch fr\u00fchere Vulkanausbr\u00fcche entstanden sind.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Vor Millionen von Jahren floss hei\u00dfe Lava aus Vulkanen bis in den Atlantischen Ozean. Dort k\u00fchlte das Gestein beim Kontakt mit dem kalten Meerwasser schnell ab und erstarrte. Im Laufe der Zeit entstanden dadurch unregelm\u00e4\u00dfige Felsformationen entlang der K\u00fcste. Manche dieser Lavabereiche bildeten nat\u00fcrliche Vertiefungen oder gesch\u00fctzte Becken zwischen den Felsen. Durch Wellenbewegungen des Atlantiks wurden diese Bereiche nach und nach mit Meerwasser gef\u00fcllt. So entstanden nat\u00fcrliche Meerwasserpools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Die Kraft des Ozeans spielt bis heute eine wichtige Rolle bei ihrer Formung. Wellen, Str\u00f6mungen und Erosion ver\u00e4ndern die Felsen st\u00e4ndig, wenn auch meist sehr langsam. Besonders bei starkem Seegang trifft das Wasser mit gro\u00dfer Kraft auf die Lavak\u00fcsten. Dadurch werden kleine Gesteinsteile abgetragen und bestehende Formen weiter ausgearbeitet. Gleichzeitig bleiben die vulkanischen Gesteine aufgrund ihrer H\u00e4rte oft \u00fcber lange Zeit stabil.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Viele vulkanische Pools befinden sich in Regionen mit dunklem Basaltgestein. Dieses Gestein ist typisch f\u00fcr vulkanische Inseln wie Madeira. Die nat\u00fcrlichen Formen der Lavasteine verleihen den Pools oft ein unregelm\u00e4\u00dfiges und urspr\u00fcngliches Aussehen. Je nach Gezeiten und Wellengang ver\u00e4ndert sich auch der Wasseraustausch innerhalb der Becken. Dadurch gelangt st\u00e4ndig frisches Meerwasser hinein.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Einige der bekanntesten vulkanischen Pools Madeiras liegen in Porto Moniz an der Nordk\u00fcste der Insel. Dort haben sich nat\u00fcrliche Lavabecken gebildet, die heute teilweise f\u00fcr Besucher zug\u00e4nglich gemacht wurden. Trotz kleiner Anpassungen bleibt ihre geologische Grundlage vollst\u00e4ndig nat\u00fcrlichen Ursprungs.
