Tats\u00e4chlich ist Seegras keine Alge, sondern eine echte Bl\u00fctenpflanze, die einst an Land wuchs und sich vor Millionen Jahren wieder ins Meer zur\u00fcckgezogen hat. Es besitzt Wurzeln, Bl\u00e4tter und sogar winzige Bl\u00fcten \u2013 und ja, es kann auch \u201ebl\u00fchen\u201c unter Wasser.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Eine der kuriosesten Eigenschaften: Seegras betreibt ganz normal Photosynthese und produziert dabei Sauerstoff \u2013 \u00e4hnlich wie W\u00e4lder an Land. Manche Seegraswiesen z\u00e4hlen sogar zu den effektivsten CO\u2082-Speichern der Erde und k\u00f6nnen Kohlenstoff \u00fcber Jahrhunderte im Meeresboden festhalten.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Noch erstaunlicher ist die Fortpflanzung: Einige Arten geben pollenartige Strukturen ins Wasser ab, die von Str\u00f6mungen zu anderen Pflanzen transportiert werden \u2013 eine Art Unterwasser-Best\u00e4ubung. Zudem k\u00f6nnen sich Seegraswiesen klonal vermehren, sodass ganze Felder genetisch identisch sind. In Australien wurde ein Seegras-Klon entdeckt, der sich \u00fcber rund 180 Kilometer erstreckt \u2013 vermutlich eines der gr\u00f6\u00dften Lebewesen der Welt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Auch f\u00fcr Tiere ist Seegras lebenswichtig: Es dient als Kinderstube f\u00fcr Fische, als Nahrungsquelle f\u00fcr Meeresschildkr\u00f6ten und sogar als Versteck f\u00fcr kleine Seepferdchen.
