W\u00e4hrend Zahnwale wie Delfine oder Orcas mit scharfen Z\u00e4hnen aktiv jagen, gehen Bartenwale einen v\u00f6llig anderen Weg: Sie filtern mit ihren fransenartigen Barten winzige Beute wie Krill aus dem Wasser. Kurios dabei: Das gr\u00f6\u00dfte Tier der Erde, der Blauwal, ern\u00e4hrt sich ausgerechnet von den kleinsten Meeresbewohnern.<\/span><\/p>\n

Auch ihre Sinne unterscheiden sich auf erstaunliche Weise. Zahnwale nutzen Echoortung \u2013 ein hochpr\u00e4zises biologisches Sonar, mit dem sie selbst in v\u00f6lliger Dunkelheit \u201esehen\u201c k\u00f6nnen. Manche Arten haben sogar individuelle \u201eNamen\u201c in Form von Lautmustern. Bartenwale hingegen setzen auf Klanggewalt: Ihre Ges\u00e4nge k\u00f6nnen sich \u00fcber tausende Kilometer durch den Ozean tragen und ver\u00e4ndern sich im Laufe der Zeit fast wie musikalische Trends.<\/span><\/p>\n

W\u00e4hrend Zahnwale ihre Beute meist im Ganzen schlucken, besitzen Bartenwale gar keine Z\u00e4hne \u2013 ihre Barten wachsen ein Leben lang nach, \u00e4hnlich wie Haare oder Fingern\u00e4gel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ein Blick in ihre K\u00f6rper verr\u00e4t zudem ihre Vergangenheit: Beide Gruppen haben noch immer finger\u00e4hnliche Knochen in ihren Flossen \u2013 ein \u00dcberbleibsel ihrer landlebenden Vorfahren. Und w\u00e4hrend Orcas oft als Wale bezeichnet werden, sind sie tats\u00e4chlich die gr\u00f6\u00dften Delfine der Welt \u2013 also Zahnwale.<\/span><\/p>\n
