Seit den 1990er Jahren wurden zwei Arten anerkannt: Kurzschnabel- und Langschnabel-Gew\u00f6hnliche Delfine <em>(Delphinus delphis und Delphinus capensis)<\/em>. Untersuchungen Anfang der 2010er Jahre ergaben jedoch, dass Langschnauzen-Gew\u00f6hnliche-Delfine weltweit nicht eng miteinander verwandt sind, sondern sich unabh\u00e4ngig von den Kurzschnauzen-Gew\u00f6hnlichen-Delfinen entwickelt haben. Die L\u00e4nge ihrer Schnauze ver\u00e4nderte sich in den verschiedenen Regionen aufgrund ihrer Umgebung (ein Prozess, der als konvergente Evolution bekannt ist). Daher diskutieren Wissenschaftler noch immer, ob es sich um zwei verschiedene Arten oder um dieselbe Art mit unterschiedlichen \u00d6kotypen handelt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Kurzschn\u00e4uzige Gemeine Delfine bevorzugen subtropische und gem\u00e4\u00dfigte Gew\u00e4sser und halten sich vorwiegend in gro\u00dfen Gruppen vor der K\u00fcste auf. Langschn\u00e4uzige Gemeine Delfine kommen in kleineren Gruppen vor und haben mehr Z\u00e4hne, die an eine gr\u00f6\u00dfere Vielfalt an Beutetieren in K\u00fcstenn\u00e4he angepasst sind. Sie sind zudem st\u00e4rker lokal begrenzt und kommen in K\u00fcstenregionen wie Westafrika, Kalifornien und Peru vor. Ihr Sanduhrmuster ist oft weniger ausgepr\u00e4gt.
