Das sind W\u00e4lder, die buchst\u00e4blich im Wasser wachsen. Das ist nur m\u00f6glich, weil sie mehrere Anpassungen haben. Eine der auff\u00e4lligsten Anpassungen sind die besonderen Wurzeln. Viele Mangrovenb\u00e4ume wachsen auf Stelzwurzeln, die den Baum aus dem Wasser heben und ihm helfen, Sauerstoff aufzunehmen. Andere besondere Wurzeln sind Pneumatophoren. Das sind vertikale Wurzeln, die aus dem Schlamm und Wasser herausragen und ebenfalls zur Bel\u00fcftung beitragen. Viele Mangroven sind in der Lage, Salz \u00fcber die Bl\u00e4tter auszuscheiden, was notwendig ist, um das \u00fcbersch\u00fcssige Salz, das sie auf nat\u00fcrliche Weise aufnehmen, wieder auszuscheiden.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Mangroven sind ein wichtiges \u00d6kosystem f\u00fcr tropische K\u00fcsten. Sie fangen Sedimente auf, die beispielsweise von Fl\u00fcssen angeschwemmt werden, und sch\u00fctzen so den Ozean vor einer \u00fcberm\u00e4\u00dfigen Sedimentation. Das Wurzelgeflecht der B\u00e4ume ist zudem ein perfekter Unterschlupf f\u00fcr Jungfische, weshalb diese W\u00e4lder ein Aufzuchtgebiet f\u00fcr viele Fische sind, darunter auch solche, die wir gerne essen. Sie sind im Allgemeinen ein Ort mit einer reichen Artenvielfalt. Die W\u00e4lder sch\u00fctzen auch die K\u00fcsten vor Erosion und sind eine nat\u00fcrliche Barriere gegen Hurrikane.
