Dennoch genossen wir die Ausfahrt sehr und verbrachten die Zeit damit, die wundersch\u00f6ne Insel Madeira vom Meer aus zu bewundern und uns vorzustellen, was wir nicht sehen k\u00f6nnen: die spannende geologische Geschichte der Insel und ihre dynamischen Tiefen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Als Produkt eines Hotspots erhebt sich Madeira aus atlantischen Tiefen von 4000 m wie eine unterseeische Gebirgskette. Nur 4 % dieser Formation sind tats\u00e4chlich als Madeira und die Desertas-Inseln sichtbar \u2013 im Grunde genommen sehen und bewohnen wir also nur die Gipfel. Geologisch betrachtet ist Madeira sehr jung, nur etwa 6 Millionen Jahre alt. Der j\u00fcngste Teil sind die Gipfel der Insel, das Paul da Serra-Plateau. Der S\u00fcdwesten mit seinen amphitheaterf\u00f6rmig angelegten D\u00f6rfern \u2013 viele entstanden durch heftige Erdrutsche \u2013 zeugt von der erosiven Natur des Basalts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Unter der Meeresoberfl\u00e4che setzt sich die dramatische Landschaft der Insel fort: Viele der tiefen T\u00e4ler, wie das Encumeada-Tal von Ribeira Brava, f\u00fchren weiter hinab in den Abgrund. Die Insel wird von zwei unterseeischen Plateaus flankiert, die Meeresstr\u00f6mungen ablenken und f\u00fcr Tiefseetaucher wie Pottwale (<em>Physeter macrocephalus<\/em>) Hindernisse darstellen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Auch wenn heute nicht unser Gl\u00fcckstag auf dem Atlantik war, lohnt es sich, daran zu denken, dass unsere Insel ein unglaubliches Produkt der Kr\u00e4fte ist, die unseren Planeten formen!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-size:
