Diese Tiergruppe umfasst Wale, Delfine, Robben, Seek\u00fche und Otter. Ihre Vorfahren lebten urspr\u00fcnglich an Land. Sie kehrten jedoch im Laufe der Evolution ins Meer zur\u00fcck. Dies machte einen au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnlichen Anpassungsprozess n\u00f6tig, der durch zahlreiche Fossilien belegt ist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Besonders eindrucksvoll sind die Fossilien fr\u00fcher Wale, der sogenannten Archaeoceti. Arten wie <em>Pakicetus<\/em> oder <em>Ambulocetus<\/em> zeigen Zwischenformen zwischen landlebenden Huftieren und vollst\u00e4ndig marinen Walen. Ihre Skelette weisen noch Hinterbeine und Merkmale zum Gehen auf, gleichzeitig aber auch bereits Anpassungen an das Schwimmen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Mit Funden wie <em>Basilosaurus<\/em> wird deutlich, dass sich der K\u00f6rperbau zunehmend ans Leben im Wasser anpasste. Die Beine schrumpften zu rudiment\u00e4ren Knochen, w\u00e4hrend Flossen und stromlinienf\u00f6rmige K\u00f6rper entstanden. Solche Fossilien dokumentieren Schritt f\u00fcr Schritt den \u00dcbergang vom Landtier zum Meeress\u00e4uger.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Bei Robben lassen sich \u00e4hnliche \u00dcbergangsformen nachweisen. Fossilien von <em>Puijila darwini<\/em>, einem etwa 24 Millionen Jahre alten Tier aus Kanada, zeigen ein Mischstadium zwischen einem Landraubtier und einer heutigen Robbe. Es konnte sowohl an Land laufen als auch im Wasser paddeln.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Fossilien von Seek\u00fchen wiederum verdeutlichen, wie Pflanzenfresser sich an das Leben im Meer anpassten. Fr\u00fchformen wie <em>Pezosiren<\/em> besa\u00dfen noch Hinterbeine und lebten wahrscheinlich in flachen K\u00fcstengew\u00e4ssern.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Diese Funde zeigen, dass Evolution kein pl\u00f6tzlicher, sondern ein langsamer, schrittweiser Prozess ist.
