Vor der K\u00fcste Australiens leben sie in den warmen Gew\u00e4ssern der Korallenriffe. Dort finden sie reichlich Nahrung wie kleine Fische und Krebse. Besonders spannend ist ihr Verhalten bei der Jagd.Einige Tiere haben gelernt, Werkzeuge zu benutzen. Sie suchen sich Schw\u00e4mme vom Meeresboden. Diese Schw\u00e4mme setzen sie gezielt auf ihre Schnauzen. So sch\u00fctzen sie ihre empfindliche Haut beim St\u00f6bern im Sand. Mit dem Schwamm k\u00f6nnen sie in Spalten und zwischen Korallen w\u00fchlen. Dabei finden sie Fische, die sich gut versteckt haben. Ohne Schutz w\u00fcrden sie sich leicht verletzen. Die Technik wird oft von M\u00fcttern an ihre K\u00e4lber weitergegeben. So breitet sich dieses Wissen innerhalb der Gruppe aus. Forscher nennen dieses Verhalten \u201eSponging\u201c. Es gilt als ein Beispiel f\u00fcr Kultur bei Tieren. Nicht alle T\u00fcmmler nutzen diese Methode. Doch gerade im Shark Bay Gebiet ist sie weit verbreitet. Das zeigt, wie anpassungsf\u00e4hig Delfine sind. Sie nutzen ihre Intelligenz, um neue L\u00f6sungen zu finden.
