Madeira ist eine besondere Insel. Sie wurde vor \u00fcber 5 Millionen Jahren geboren, als auf dem Meeresboden in 4000 m Tiefe vulkanische Aktivit\u00e4ten einsetzten. Irgendwann brach sie dann an die Oberfl\u00e4che und die Insel, wie wir sie kennen, war geboren.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Da Madeira jedoch nie mit einer Landmasse verbunden war, war sie anfangs nur ein karger Felsen im weiten Atlantik. Doch das war nicht f\u00fcr immer so. Mit Hilfe der V\u00f6gel, des Windes und des Ozeans begann das Leben auf der Insel, deren fruchtbare B\u00f6den N\u00e4hrstoffe f\u00fcr eine \u00fcppige Vegetation lieferten. Die auff\u00e4lligste Vegetation Madeiras ist die so genannte Laurissilvia<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>oder Lorbeerwald, wie er auf Deutsch hei\u00dft. Dieser subtropische Wald existiert auf den Inseln seit fast 2 Millionen Jahren und ist ein reliktisches \u00d6kosystem. Diese Art von Wald war in der Vergangenheit auch in S\u00fcdeuropa verbreitet, wurde aber durch die Eiszeiten verdr\u00e4ngt, wo er ausstarb und nur auf den Kanarischen Inseln und Madeira \u00fcberlebte, und hier auf Madeira ist der gr\u00f6\u00dfte Teil noch intakt. Aus diesem Grund f\u00fchlt sich ein Spaziergang durch diesen Wald ein wenig pr\u00e4historisch an.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Wenn Sie also das n\u00e4chste Mal durch diesen Wald gehen, denken Sie daran, dass Sie fast eine Zeitreise gemacht haben.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Auf der heutigen Fahrt haben wir noch Meeresbewohner gesehen. Wir hatten Atlantische Fleckendelfine (<i>Stenella frontalis<\/i>) und eine Unechte Karettschildkr\u00f6te (<i>Caretta caretta<\/i>).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino;
