Der sogenannten \u201eWal-Kot-Pumpe\u201c-Effekt zeigt ihrer faszinierendsten Funktionen in der Unterst\u00fctzung des N\u00e4hrstoffkreislaufs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Ihr Kot ist extrem n\u00e4hrstoffreich, insbesondere an Stickstoff und Eisen, die in der oberen Wasserschicht oft knapp sind. Diese N\u00e4hrstoffe f\u00f6rdern das Wachstum von Phytoplankton \u2013 winzigen Algen, die die Grundlage der marinen Nahrungskette bilden. Phytoplankton spielt zudem eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Bindung von Kohlendioxid aus der Atmosph\u00e4re und produziert einen Gro\u00dfteil des Sauerstoffs, den wir atmen. 70% des gebildeten Sauerstoffs auf unserem Planeten wird vom Phytoplankton produziert.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, Palatino; font-size: 12pt;\">Indem Wale also N\u00e4hrstoffe aus den Tiefen an die Oberfl\u00e4che bringen, unterst\u00fctzen sie die Produktivit\u00e4t der Ozeane und tragen indirekt zur globalen Klimaregulierung bei.
