Anhand ihrer Befeuerung dienen sie als Peilmarke im Schiffsverkehr.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Vor dem westlichen Zipfel Madeiras gibt es vor Ponta do Pargo Untiefen. Ein Plateau, welches teilweise nur eine Tiefe von 70-90 Meter hat, erstreckt sich ca. 3nm hinaus ins Meer. Einst waren Entdecker in dieser gef\u00e4hrlichen K\u00fcstenregion unterwegs. Sie fingen in dieser Meeresregion Pargo (Seebrasse) und daher bekam der Ort seinen Namen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Solch ein Inselzipfel braucht nat\u00fcrlich einen Leuchtturm, um den Seem\u00e4nnern als Wegweiser zu dienen. Der wundersch\u00f6ne und vierzehn Meter hohe Leuchtturm in Ponta do Pargo steht auf einer H\u00f6he von 290m. Es ist das h\u00f6chstgelegene Signalfeuer Portugals. Am 5. Juni 1922 wurde er in Betrieb genommen. Fast 28 Meilen weit, ist sein Licht in der Nacht erkennbar und bietet der Seefahrt eine Orientierung. 1999 wurde er von der Regionalregierung zum Kulturerbe von lokalem Wert eingestuft.
