Das liegt vor allem an der Bergkette, die die Nord- und die S\u00fcdseite der Insel trennt. Da auf Madeira haupts\u00e4chlich Winde aus dem Norden wehen, gilt der S\u00fcden im Allgemeinen als der ruhigere Teil der Insel, aber auch hier kann es zu Abweichungen kommen. Starke Winde aus dem Osten oder Westen k\u00f6nnen durch gro\u00dfe Strukturen entlang der K\u00fcstenlinie wie das Cabo Gir\u00e3o beschleunigt oder abgelenkt werden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Im Sommer herrschen in der Regel Nordostwinde vor, die die s\u00fcdwestlichen Gew\u00e4sser, unser Suchgebiet, v\u00f6llig ruhig und beschaulich machen. Mit Beginn der \u00dcbergangsjahreszeiten kommen auch die Nordwestwinde, die die Gew\u00e4sser um Calheta kabbelig machen.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-family: Georgia, Palatino;\">Letzteres war heute leider der Fall, und wir taten unser Bestes, um den windigen Bedingungen zu trotzen und Wale auf dem Meer zu finden. Erst zwei Tage zuvor hatten wir eine Gruppe von Pottwalen (<i>Physeter macrocephalus<\/i>) im Wind gefunden, also hofften wir auf das Beste.
