            11.12.2021 – Sunset trip

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on December 18, 2021

Today it was a zigzag course. Not long at sea, I saw the back of a marine mammal slide through the sea. I assumed it was a Blainville beaked whale (Mesoplodon densirostris). We waited and nothing happened. There was no second appearance. So we left the area and started looking again. After a while, our spotter reported that he had sighted Blainville beaked whales. So another change of course. Arrived in the area, again nothing. Now there was the message that there may be dolphins a little further from the coast. Another change of course. This time we were lucky. Even it was short, we were able to observe Short-beaked Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). On the long journey back, we had plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful sunset. We rarely experience that, because by this time we are usually back in the harbor.
