            08.07.2019 – Such sea rowdys

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on July 16, 2019

Do I have to re-think the friendship and love for my water friends? Today, some Atlantic Spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) behaved in front of everyone’s eyes, boorish, very boorish!! They not only had an eye on a Loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) or/and its fishy companion but also stressed them enormously. Such sea rowdys! Although the photo-proof was not sharp to be used, in one photo I could see that the dolphin pressed the turtle down with his beak. Our guest could observe how the poor reptile slashed with the little flippers around to defend himself. What do you do, to save the one in need of protection in such a situation? A diversion maneuver starting is the solution of course! What could work best here? Riding bow waves, that’s clear. And fortunately, the boorish Spotted dolphins were well distracted … the turtle and probably their fishy companions have come off lightly. A fright, however, has remained certain.

As on the midday tour, our “summer” dolphins were distributed over a large area during the evening tour and we had close encounters with these small marine mammals again and again.

            Two beautiful trips!
