It is not always easy to have an enjoyable and sustainable sighting out at the sea. Thanks to the spotter we already knew that we had dolphins far out when we left harbor. The swell didn’t made it easy. After a while we got an update from our spotter. The group split up, one part traveled into the wind the others away from us in the direction of Ponta do Sol. Which decision is right in a moment like this? The most practical! It took a while but finally we met the animals in front of Ponta do Sol. It was a small, mixed group of Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) and Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) but to our regret the animals were not interactive. It was a disadvantage that two other whale watching boats approached the area way to fast. This blindfold approach destroyed the ever chance for any contact, for everybody!!. This situation clearly shows how important it is to be aware of the responsibility of being a whale watching company in observing these wonderful marine mammals! This time this didn’t work out well. I was very sorry for our guests and especially for these animals.
