This afternoon we had a wonderful group of Short-Finned Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhyncus), which prefer warm waters. If you check their flippers you wouldn’t call them short at all, but the flippers of their fellow species (Long-Finned Pilot whales) from cold waters are definitely longer. We were lucky to observe a kindergarten group close by and once in a while one of the youngsters took a curious look at us. Which an outstanding experience, what a gift! While we are able to admire the Pilot whales with short flippers, their long-finned relations are every summer threatened by cruel whale hunts in Faroese Islands. How you can support protection for these animals? Please sign our petition, which you will find on our Website under Marine Protection. Thank you very much! By the way our Pilot whales were accompanied by a small group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), which we discovered first but pretty soon they were gone.
