On our tours today on board STENELLA, we saw in the morning a resident group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and in the afternoon with gusts of wind coming down from the mountains we focused our efforts in locating a group of Short-beaked common dolphins that were just 2 nm offshore but due to the weather conditions it was impossible. Continuing the trip further offshore a group of Bottlenose dolphins passed through us very briefly and disappeared. It`s always surprising how this creatures can easily disappear if they are not interested in our approach but since they were swimming at a high pace we deducted that the group was on the hunt and it seemed that the trip would end with this short sighting. Heading back and still on the “ lookout” we finally spotted a bustle of Seagulls marking the group of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) that we originally tried to locate under the strong gusts of wind at the beginning of the trip.
