“It was worth it!” That was the reaction from our guests on board the RIBEIRA BRAVA, after spending a great part of the trip looking for cetaceans. Over 2 hours had passed when we finally located three baleen whales. Two juveniles and one adult gliding through the waves, all heading west in to the open Ocean. In the long way back we were lucky again and had two species at the same time, Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) both together feeding on a school of fish. The area were we had the sightings coincide with the steep sides of the underwater plateau SW of Ponta do Pargo. Upwelling and downwelling currents originate a rich concentration of nutrientes and therefore the presence of marine life……
