A great start in a successful day we had with a slow and relaxing school of Pilotwhales. Already from far away, we could see their black bodies, glaring in the early sunlight some miles off the Madalena do Mar. Major characteristics of this species are their round headshape and the absence of a „beak“. Always a majestic sight, watching those animals with a bodysize up to 6 m passing by so closely, including listening to their breath. During the day. we saw besides Bottlenose Dolphins again acrobatic performances of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins. High salt and headstands – like a piece of cake. During our trips we also saw several Loggerhead turtles, sunbathing at the surface in order to heat up their bodies.
