Today, we celebrate Portugal Day, also known as Camões Day. Luís Vaz de Camões, a renowned writer, is widely considered to be the greatest poet in the Portuguese language and a leading figure of the Portuguese Renaissance. The genius and innovation of his work elevated the Portuguese language to new literary heights while celebrating Portugal’s maritime achievements.
On this special day, we are also celebrating the return of our flagship, the Ribeira Brava. It has undergone maintenance over the last few weeks and now returns refurbished. During its maiden voyage, the crew spotted a bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus). Our RIBs also went out and Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis), Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis), and Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus).
What a wonderful day, and what fantastic animals we encountered on our trips!
