Rain and sunshine took turns today. The April weather seemed to be in a hurry and turned up as early as March. In the morning, there were small, widely scattered pods of Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis). After spending the morning hunting, they were seen resting peacefully at midday off Stenella. This usually interactive dolphin species was reserved today. Instead, we had a few close encounters with a group of Blainville’s beaked whales (Mesoplodon densirostris). These usually rather shy animals seemed well-disposed towards us. There were even two calves in their midst. That’s how it is sometimes. Almost like a slight change of identity?
