The sun was setting when we were coming back from our last Stenella trip. Today we could admire 3 different species of cetaceans. In the morning the guests could admire our Sperm whales (Physeter macrocephalus) and some Short-finned pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus). Both of these species are deep diving animals which feed mainly on squid and octopi in the deep sea. Sperm whales are the largest carnivores on earth with up to 18m, while Pilot whales are the second largest dolphins species with up to 7m.
In the afternoon trips we encountered a different species, our Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). These residents stay more in the surface waters where they feed on every type of food source they can find, even stealing fish from fishing vessels. They are one of the smartest creatures in the sea and find a solution for almost every problem.
