In the morning, both of our boats encountered a big and interactive group of Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). Our guests on Stenella were even treated to Sperm whale (Physter macrocephalus) encounter.
The afternoon was very different. With autumn slowly rolling in, strong wind conditions led to the cancellation of some tours so only one Stenella trip went ahead. Sightings for this one were quite special. We had one young Blainville’s beaked whale (Mesoplodon densirostris) male swimming right next to our boat. This was followed by a Cuvier’s beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris) and Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) sighting. All of these animals are quite rare to see, so truly a lucky trip!
