Today was another tricky one. In the morning we had Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) travelling west. Our speedboat just managed to observe them as they reached the area heavily affected by strong winds cutting past the island. The animals were already out of reach for the Ribeira Brava and an attempt to wait for Blainville’s beaked whales (Mesoplodon densirostris) resulted in no luck either.
In the afternoon, Bottlenose dolphins showed up closer to the marina which resulted in beautiful encounters and the second Stenella trip even found a surprisingly interactive group of Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) at 13 nautical miles outside Calheta.
