            27.05.2024 – Gratitude

Published by Fatima Kutzschbach on June 3, 2024

It’s always exciting to see what there is to see on every tour. The coincidence factor is definitely always there. The animals have to be in the area, the spotter has to discover the animals, which is not always easy, especially when they move slowly and quietly between the waves. We have to manage to get there in time. All these factors make it clear that there is good reason to be grateful for every observation.

Today there was so much to see in our blue office: Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus); Short-beaked common dolphins (Delphinus delphis); Rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bredanensis); Risso dolphins (Grampus griseus); Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba), Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) and Portuguese man-o-war (Physalia physalis); a Loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta); Cory shearwaters (Calonectris diomedia borealis); Bulwer’s petrels (Bulweria bulwerii). In short: plenty of cause for gratitude!

Gratitude is a powerful emotion that can enrich our lives. It opens our hearts and allows us to recognise the beauty of the moment. Gratitude means appreciating the small and big joys of life and recognising the value of every moment. It promotes positive thoughts and improves our well-being. Being grateful helps us to cope better with stressful situations and strengthens our resilience. Gratitude reminds us of how much we already have instead of focussing on what we lack. It is an attitude that makes us humble and reminds us that we can’t do everything on our own. Gratitude is closely linked to happiness. Studies have shown that grateful people tend to be happier and more satisfied with their lives. They experience fewer negative emotions and have a more optimistic view of the future. Gratitude ultimately means embracing life in all its facets and seeing the good in every situation. It is a key to a more fulfilling and satisfying life. By being grateful, we create space for more joy, love and peace in our everyday lives.
