Today was filled with some true highlights. In the morning, we had our beloved Atlantic spotted dolphins (Stenella frontalis) that we saw throughout the day and Striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) which was already really nice. Then suddenly, we spotted some sei whales (Balaenoptera borealis) passing by the coast. Certainly not something we see every day.
In the afternoon, we encountered even more dolphins. This time, the usually very shy Striped dolphins surprised us with being very interactive. We saw them bow-riding and leaping right next to the boat – truly a special interaction with these beautiful animals. The day ended with some Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) and a family of Blainville’s beaked whales (Mesoplodon densirostris). The Blainville’s surprised us with their interaction as well by bow-riding and swimming alongside the boat with a very young calf. Overall, the day was filled with a lot of fun trips that were all quite different and all had their own special encounters.
