Today we had two nice tours at sea. In the morning, the Ribeira Brava went out into the blue to observe a few Pilot whales (Globicephala macrorhynchus) and admire Bottlenose dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) in detail. The bottlenose dolphins came again and again into our bow wave.
In the afternoon, Common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) enjoyed the summer sea. It almost sounded like children splashing in the outdoor pool on a hot summer’s day. A nice summer day mood!
On both tours we had Loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta), both times in the company of several fish. On the afternoon tour with the Stenella we found the turtle next to a garbage bag, which we were fortunately able to fish out of the water. The turtle, remained behind with a small fright due the surprising action to fish the bag out. But that’s a small price compared to the possibility that she would have been amicable on this plastic. A reminder of the importance of being well thought out when dealing with nature. Recycling is good, reducing is better!
