19.06.2016 – Oh boy, oh boy

Published by lobosonda on June 26, 2016

Sometimes the explanation comes fast! Today we had the question of how to identify a male or a female dolphin. The most reliable method of distinguishing would be to measure the distance between the anus and the genital organ. On male dolphins both slits are clearly further away from each other. On the other hand, females have on each side of the genital organ a little slit, which contain the teats. So if you look close at one of our pictures you might say: “Oh boy, oh boy!” During our morning trip we had some relaxed and some turbulent situations with Atlantic Spotted dolphins.
