Off the coast of Madeira we are able to meet different species of dolphins. Today we observed Bottlenose dolphins from a distance since they were on their own mission.
In general the term Tursiops describes a group in the family of dolphins. The Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) is one of three in this genus. He is the most known of all dolphin species. They are often exposed to human greed to subdue animals and therefore hold in captivity (a place they absolutely do not belong!!!). Bottlenose dolphins are worldwide widespread. There are two different forms of Bottlenose dolphins. 1. Inshore Bottlenose dolphins prefer to stay close to coastlines. We are able to observe this type the whole year around, like today. 2. The high sea form has a stronger body, but we meet these just occasionally off the coast of Madeira.
