We started the new season here at Lobosonda with some truly magnificent experiences out at sea. My guests on the Stenella this morning enjoyed a large group of Atlantic Spotted Dolphins surrounding our boat, with at least 40 animals gliding along our bow. Shortly afterwards we sped off to observe a very shy Bryde’s whale which changed direction frequently during its dives, encouraging us to leave it in peace and continue to our next sighting. Here, we were able to admire a feeding situation involving Bottlenose dolphins and, although the animals clearly had other priorities, one large oceanic animal inquisitively approached the bow before joining the rest to continue hunting.
The Ribeira Brava and the Stenella shared the afternoon sightings with a large pod of Striped dolphins, a pair of Sperm Whales and many curious Atlantic Spotted dolphins. As we moved towards the coast we were even able to encounter one of the many young turtles feeding around the waters of Madeira as it was warming up in the autumn sun at the surface of the Atlantic.
With these wonderful sightings and satisfied guests on board, we are ready for more and happily „whalecome“ the month of October!
