Today’s motto was: next Stop Ponta do Pargo! All almost all sightings happened there. Bottlenose dolphins, Atlantic Spotted dolphins, Tropical whales chose the area in front of Ponta do Pargo and for that reason us as well. But there were exceptions. Ribeira Brava had a Tropical whale close to shore during the morning trip. While the last Stenella trip was already on its way to “Stop Ponta do Pargo” some Blainville Beaked whales crossed our way. And guess who is the very good with Beaked whales? Yes, correct: our captain Filipe! I really believe these small whales are in love with him! With Filipe we have special and unforgettable Blainville Beaked whale encounters. During the introduction I talked about the shyness of these whales but it rang quite hallow since our guests (and the crew as well) were lucky to have a totally different experience with our Blainvilles. Curious approaches to the boat; circuiting around us; turning to their side; coming to the bow; turning away just to come quickly back to us and again and again we saw into these beautiful whale eyes. Whose heart wouldn’t melt? They were cozy, sweet, curious, close, interested and beautiful. It was just a dream! I am sure you guessed already right. Yes, I am a total Blainville groupie!!!
